Story
Nash Architects is a Melbourne-based practice established in 2020 and led by Sophie Nash. We work across Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales on range of projects from small interiors to large commercial work.
Our work is modest and optimistic, arising from a design process which is collaborative and responsive, rather than fixed on a pre-defined aesthetic. Central to this are the needs of our clients. From tight budgets and a growing family to complex site conditions and intractable time constraints, we are inspired to develop creative solutions which bring practicality and joy to our projects.
Our approach looks beyond a project’s façade, to the broader context surrounding a site. Socio-economic, environmental, political and historical conditions have a profound influence on our architectural process and result in projects which are embedded in their environment in a reciprocal relationship. With projects across three states, our work is the product of the diverse planning schemes, climatic conditions and ways of living which give individual character to each of these areas.
Nash Architects’ director, Sophie, has over ten years’ experience working at internationally awarded practices in Melbourne, London and Zürich. In addition to practicing architecture, Sophie also teaches Architectural Design at RMIT University and Melbourne Polytechnic University. Sophie has worked on several architectural publications, including co-editing Addis Ababa: A Manifesto on African Progress (2018, Ruby Press) and illustrating work for Cultivated Building Materials (2017, Birkhäuser).
